Congregational Council/Church Committees Resurrection’s Congregational Council consists of a President, Vice-president, Secretary, Treasurer, and the leaders of the various church committees (Stewardship, Fellowship, Social Ministry, Christian Education, Church Properties, Staff Support, and Evangelism/Outreach) together with the Pastor. Members of the Congregational Council are elected at the annual meeting in January to two-year terms, which are staggered so that all of the members are not new to the council at the same time. The committees welcome volunteers. Please see leaders of the committees listed below if you are interested in volunteering. Stewardship – Dan Tillman 616-5565 The mission of the Stewardship Committee is to educate the congregation in what it means to be disciples of Jesus with regard to the 4 T’s: time, talent, treasure and trash. As part of its stewardship program, Resurrection chooses an annual emphasis for its reflection and action. This program challenges us to more fully follow the Lord Jesus in our daily lives in terms of our time and our treasure. The members of Resurrection are encouraged to participate in a Spiritual Gifts Inventory which marks out how one is gifted by God and how one can choose to use those gifts in the life and ministry of the congregation. Those who have not completed a Spiritual Gifts Inventory may contact the church office for an information packet or send an email and one will be mailed. The Stewardship Committee also seeks to educate the church community in care of the earth issues as we are all called to be stewards of our environment and the world God created. Fellowship – Audrey Rhea 466-5136 The Fellowship Committee coordinates and sponsors the various gatherings of the church’s social life. The Committee hosts the Sunday Coffee. It sponsors a monthly “Adults’ Nite Out” at area restaurants. It coordinates the Advent and Lenten Simple Suppers and other events throughout the year. Watch the bulletin and newsletter for descriptions of up-coming events—and come join in the fun!Social Ministry – Dave Schmalbeck 465-7792 The Social Ministry Committee at Resurrection seeks to meet the needs of those in need in the Riverbend area. Each year at the holidays we "adopt" families for Christmas gifts, food and clothing. Social ministry sponsors an on-going food drive for the Crisis Food Center in Alton. The Social Ministry committee also seeks to educate the congregation about social justice and advocacy concerns as we seek to live as Christians in the world. You can participate in the social ministry of the church by supporting the various drives and special offerings throughout the year. We invite any interested persons to come join our committee. We conduct a continuing and year long effort to collect non-perishable food items for the Crisis Food Center. The collection barrel is located in the Narthex.Church Property – Eldon Mollet 467-1910 The Property Committee is charged with care for the physical facilities and grounds of the church. It oversees mowing, trimming and trash pick-up. The committee provides for the painting, repairs and upkeep of the church building and parking lot. It monitors the insurance needs of the church. The committee schedules a number of workdays throughout the year.Staff Support – Tammy Neese 466-6512 The staff support committee is responsible for selecting and hiring for all lay positions (organist, secretary, etc.). They annually review the performance of all paid positions. They make an annual recommendation to the Church Council on the salary and other benefits of the Pastor and report to the Church Council any decisions they have made.Evangelism/Outreach – Amy Miller 792-2070 The Evangelism and Outreach Committee seeks to create a welcoming atmosphere for visitors to our church. It seeks to integrate new members into the daily life of the congregation as well as promote the participation of existing members in the life and ministry of the congregation. Committee members assist the greeters after the service to answer any questions and assist visitors in signing the guest registry and follow up on visitors to the church. Christian Education – Alice Barnard 465-7792 Sunday School is held from 9:00—9:45 a.m. from September to May for all ages from pre-school (34 yrs. old) through Adult. Vacation Bible School (VBS) is held for one week in the summer in the evening. Registration starts in April. Volunteers are always needed for VBS. Planning begins in January. Volunteers for teaching Sunday School are welcome, regardless of their level of experience. We use a rotation method of teaching Sunday School to encourage more volunteers. Youth Ministry — Becky Grigsby 466-2240 We have two youth groups: High School Youth Group (Grades 9 - 12) and Junior High Youth Group (Grades 5 - 8)
